The Archway Lower School, located in Waterford Township, is a NJ DOE Approved Private School for Students with Disabilities (APSSD). The Lower School provides a nurturing and educational experience for students ages 3 through 21 with Multiple Disabilities, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Communication Disabilities, other Health Impairments and Pre-School Disabilities (PSD).
Students, who may also be challenged socially, medically, neurologically, and economically, receive not just an education, but additional support services needed to succeed in life. Learning takes place in traditional classroom settings with a high level of personal attention. Certified teachers, counselors and therapists work with students in small class environments, delivering caring educational services that all parents desire for their children. Vocational training classes , as well as work-study experiences complement the students’ life skills program and prepare them for post graduate placement.
The Lower School staff continues to investigate new and innovative methodologies to enhance student achievement. Equally as important to providing a good education for our students is preparing them to live independently. Archway provides a wide variety of support services, including behavior and stress management techniques, occupational and speech therapies, as well as physical therapy including collaborating with outside agencies to assist in the fitting, purchasing and monitoring of adaptive equipment/mobility devices.
The Lower School curriculum also offers fun activities and social interaction, so important in any stimulating school program. A full-service cafeteria, large gymnasium, two swimming facilities and a lake-side setting ideal for fishing and boating, give our students the opportunity to learn and practice life skills in serene surroundings.
