Each year around this time, staff and students from the Archway Schools’ head over to Johnson’s Farm. Since this just wasn’t possible this year, our staff brought the farm to Archway’s Main Campus. Each class had different time slots which made it possible to social distance, properly clean everything in-between the various time slots and most importantly, keep everyone safe. Archway Upper School students worked together to beautify our main campus this week in horticultural program. Didn’t they do an incredible job?! Students who participate in the horticultural program receive instruction at the schools’ on-campus flower shop, ‘From the Ground Up’, one of the Structured Learning Experiences offered through the Career Education Program. Last month Archway employees, executives and board members joined school staff as they gathered together to support Archway’s Lower School students’ at their annual holiday show. Artwork was displayed throughout the gymnasium and students participated in musical performances inspired by holiday hits. A special shout out to Ms. Chayla, Art Teacher and Mr. Gabe, Music Therapist and Lower School staff for all of the hard work that went into making this another successful event!
Each year right before Christmas, St. John’s Episcopal Church (located in Blackwood) brings cooked food to St. Paul's Episcopal Church located in the city of Camden for a dinner for the homeless. Congregation and local community members from St. John's donate food for the dinner. Every October, staff and students from our schools participate in a 'Week of Respect' which in support of Bully Prevention month. This is a perfect opportunity to reinforce the expected behaviors that foster a safe, kind and respectful learning environment. Cooper’s Poynt Principal John Petsch and Executive Director Susan Lafferty hosted an Open House at our Camden campus on October 10th. Case Managers, Child Study Teams, Education Administrators and Directors from all of the local Camden County public school districts attended the event to see Archway’s highly supportive and integrated APSSD program. Attendees met Archway staff, observed the classrooms, and learn more about what services and resources are offered to students. T
Inspired by the Special Olympics, the Archway Games is an a fun annual event held by Archway School staff, that gives students an opportunity to compete in activities, work on skills including fine and gross motor, team building and sportsmanship. All of our students get an opportunity to interact with each other on different levels while cheering each other on. The Archway Games consist of an Opening Ceremony, four days of morning and afternoon games, and a Closing Ceremony.
We celebrated the accomplishments of 12 Upper School students and 3 Lower School students at two recent graduation ceremonies. It was a joyful and bittersweet event for our graduates, their families, friends, teachers and staff. Decked out in traditional caps and gowns, students were honored with awards for achievement in art, life skills, and music, among others. Before the end of the school-year Archway staff, students and local partnering businesses attended the annual Career and Technical Education Luncheon, hosted by the Archway Schools' Career Education Program. Archway Programs partners with local businesses to make the Career Center and the Career Education Program a place where students can become workplace ready.
