Girl Scouts Offers Enrichment Series for Just Kids
Updated: Jul 24, 2019
Just Kids and the Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey teamed up again this year and gave girls at several of the schools it serves a new twist on the program's before and after school care. Girls at Archway's Just Kids Program discovered what it means to be a G.I.R.L. (go-getter, innovator, risk-taker and leader). The girls learned about their self-esteem and explored what it means to be a friend, set goals, and celebrate each other and themselves through STEM activities, games and more.
This program was made possible through generous funding from both the United Way of Gloucester County and the Girl Scouts of Central and Southern NJ and includes yearly membership costs for each girl and the necessary supplies. Membership entitles the girls to attend Girl Scouting programs in nine different counties.
Just Kids has been collaborating with the Girl Scouts of Central & Southern NJ for 8 years. The Girl Scout Council works with girls to help provide the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in a mini-camp. This year's program, G.I.R.L. Leadership Summit, consisted of a 4-week mini-camp session, offered once a week for an hour, during after-school care hours at the Just Kids Program. After the girls completed the program, they were registered as Girl Scouts through collaboration with the Girl Scouts and the United Way of Gloucester County. This process allows the girls and their families to continue programming in areas that form the foundation of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
Past mini-camps have included C.S.I. programs, Life Takes Guts biology program, Recycle with Green Art, Girl Scouts Gets Medieval On Us, The Science of Bubbles, and many other programs. All programs incorporate the four skill areas of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience — Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship.
