Team Compassion is Their Name
In the mist of the COVID-19 pandemic, Archway staff have come together to form a new team. This team, affectionately dubbed, “Team Compassion” has taken on the task to help others knowing all the possible risks, with the sole goal of continuing Archway’s dedication to its ACT clients. Orchestrated by Amy Miller, ACT Program Supervisor, a schedule of consumers who had medication to be dropped off or were in need of their routine psychiatric injections was first compiled. Amy then reached out to Sherri Bishop from Archway's Transportation Department, who coordinated with Shirley, Russell and William. Together they schedule the runs, to make the medication deliveries and drive the nurses around to the homes of clients served in Archway's adult partial care program. The nursing team of Kate and Lois, from the Archway Schools, check-in on clients at their homes, administer medication and provide medication education to the ACT clients, to foster continued knowledge and awareness.
In addition, ‘’Care Packages” were put together and given out to the adults served in the ACT Program. The Care Packages reflect their individual interests, and include snack items, coping tools such as word searches, stress balls, coloring pages, markers and items that assist with encouraging continued positive hygiene routines, such as soap, lotion, combs, toothpaste and deodorant.
With the new legislation aimed to continuing the decrease of spreading the virus and due to the limited resources of some of the consumers, face masks have also been included in the ACT Care Packages. The face masks will allow continued access to essential locations, as online ordering is not always an option, permitting them to continue to thrive during these new ways of social interaction.
During each drop off, the consumers are encouraged to use their coping skills and asked to call if they need any help or assistance, This allows for an additional positive interaction in their day. Due to the warm demeanor and caring hearts of "Team Compassion" this initiative is possible and running smoothly.
